How did the Astros get here?

Image
A little backstory: When I was 4 years old, my family moved to the Houston area. Around that same time, I was signed up for my first season of tee ball. Little did I know at the time that those two events coinciding would end up morphing into one of my passions, and creating one of the greatest memories of my relatively short time on Earth on November 1, 2017. On Wednesday, the Houston Astros won their first World Series championship in franchise history. From the Colt .45's, and then after years of not being able to advance in the playoffs in their awesome rainbow jerseys, and then after the glory years of the Killer B’s who would influence my generation of kids playing baseball in Houston, and then after years of mediocrity, and then after years of the worst baseball you’ve ever seen, it finally happened. Let’s take a little trip down memory lane to find out how the Houston Astros came to be known as World Champions. October 22, 2005 After getting over the hump...

Dissecting the Texan's draft

Image
It’s that time of the year again, when everyone is complaining about missing football. The NFL draft is just a tease that get’s everyone excited that football is back, but just for a weekend before another 5 month hibernation. There’s a lot of speculation that goes into the draft, everyone wants to know who their team is going to get. There’s mock draft after mock draft, and yet, no one ever predicts anything outside of the top 5 correctly. It’s like trying to guess a March Madness bracket. Examining a draft after the fact is easier comparatively speaking, but even still, you’re trying to predict the future of 21 year olds. That said, let’s look and see how the Houston Texans new rookies are shaping up this year. Offseason Recap: After back-to-back playoff appearances, the Texans seem to be looking for that final piece to get them over the hump. Provided you don’t live under a rock, you know what that final piece is, but I’ll get to that. This offseason, due to some salary cap i...

Welcome to Part 2 of my 2017 MLB Preview. To view my NL Preview in Part 1, CLICK HERE . Ok, so I’m a week and a half late on this… But teams haven’t even made it two turns through their starting rotations yet. My cousin texted me yesterday complaining about the Rangers’ pitching, and I responded, “Chill. You’re nine games into a 162 game season.” So I think that should suffice as an excuse here. Don’t worry, I tried not to let any of what has already happened affect my opinions on what will happen. In fact, I already had this lined as the season was starting, all I had left to do was fill in the reasoning. There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s get into what will happen with the Red Sox and their new shiny toy, Chris Sale, the Baby Bombers of the Bronx, the defending AL Champion Indians, and who will win the Silver Boot between the Rangers and Astros. AL EAST The Boston Red Sox made the biggest move of the offseason when they traded the number one rated prospect and oth...
